Principal's Message

Dear Big Mac Community,

It is with great pride and excitement that I am writing to you as the newly appointed Principal of Canon-McMillan High School.  I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with a rich tradition of excellence in education and I cannot wait to continue to work with the teachers and staff of CMHS to raise that bar even higher!

Over the past five years, I have had the opportunity to serve and work with many of you as one of the Assistant Principals at Canon-McMillan High School.  During that time, I have worked with our staff, Board of School Directors, Central Office, and community stakeholders to shift our educational paradigm to ensure our students are being given the opportunity to hone and apply real world skills.  These initiatives have led to the creation of the CM Store and partnerships with Microsoft, Amazon, and Carnegie Mellon to better our Computer Science program.  We look forward to expanding these partnerships as we approach the opening of a student run Credit Union branch, a new CPR initiative for our 9th grade students, and, next year, with an innovative Drone curriculum.  The High School team has also worked to increase our Advanced Placement courses, offer a College in the High School course through the University of Pittsburgh, and has entered into a dual enrollment partnership with Pittsburgh Technical College.  Recently, you also may have noticed and heard about the rollout of our “No Place for Hate” initiative and we look forward to working with the Anti-Defamation League to be recognized as a “No Place for Hate” school later this year.

I would like to thank the Board of School Directors and our Central Office team for the opportunity to continue to build upon our past successes and to look for new and innovative ways to promote the academic success of all of our students.  I would also like to thank Mr. Helinski for his 13 ½ years of service to the students and staff at CMHS and wish him the best as he enters retirement and embarks on a new chapter in his life.

I am excited and eager to continue to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your student’s success.  Please feel to share your input with me and to let me know of any questions or concerns that you might have throughout the school year.

Sincerely,

Kenneth E. Crowley

Principal
