NSIS Students Got "Crafty" By Creating Native American Masks for a Culminating Social Studies Project

Students in Mrs. Kelemen's class at North Strabane Intermediate School studied about Native Americans, focusing on regional areas, tribes, homes, and culture. They learned about how some tribes used masks in ceremonies. Students could create a template mask for Northwest Pacfic bear, Eskimo swan, Iroquois False Face, or designed one of their own. Masks could represent a characteristic, animal, natural element, spirit, or person.
