Second Round of Code to the Future Epic Build Showcases Continued at South Central and Wylandville

Keynote Speakers from Wylandville Elementary
Posted On: Thursday, February 13, 2020

As mentioned by one of the principals at the Epic Build Showcases perhaps the most impressive thing about these projects is that while they all have similar themes they are all incredibly different as well. Similar to Borland Manor, South Central and Wylandville second graders also learned about Pennsylvania history with their showcases. But because there is so much about Pennsylvania history that students can learn every project had different features that their robot went to.

Another example of how different similar themes can be are the third grade classes at South Central and Wylandville. For one third grade class at Wylandville for example each group in the class researched a different continent. They learned things like different types of land for example and then made their own versions of it for their robot to travel to. They then each presented what they learned to their parents.

While all projects are impressive, perhaps the most impressive is that for the first time at all of the schools kindergarten classes took part in the Epic Build Showcases. For the first project kindergarten classes built houses with logos and they learned about styles of building like stacking versus overlapping. They then coded the house they built with sentences about themselves. They also did a second project where they coded their name. South Central kindergartner Ellie showed off how she was able to change the color of her name, change the background and move the letters around.

Keep an eye out for invitations to the third round of Epic Build Showcases for each school, which will be in May. The rest of the elementary schools second round of Epic Build Showcases are as follows:

  • Muse – Wednesday, February 19th at 9:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
