Students in Ms. Valancius and Mrs. Shaffer's classes at Muse Elementary read the story that accompanied author Lauren Tarshis' talk in their StoryWorks magazine. Ms. Valancius says they were excited to hear the author talk and to take a virtual field trip through the area where the avalanche occurred. Here are more details about this event, according to the Flip Website:

"Join Flip, Scholastic, and Lauren Tarshis, author of the New York Times bestselling I Survived series, for a thrilling journey into history and science as we explore the Wellington Avalanche of 1910, America's deadliest avalanche and train tragedy that changed transportation history. Through the story of this gripping event, students will learn about a boy who survived the event, plus the history of transportation, life in the early 20th century, the science of storms and avalanches, and explore themes of resilience and courage they can use in their lives."
