Canon-McMillan Lands 10 and Coach of the Year Sheila Mitchell at The Big 56 First Team All Conference Banquet

The WPIAL (Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League) honors the best athletes in football, girls volleyball, boys basketball, girls basketball, baseball, softball, girls soccer and boys soccer with "The Big 56 Team All Conference Banquet."  The 56 refers to the 56 schools from the WPIAL that have at least one athletic team in the top two enrollment classifications for football, baseball, softball, or basketball, or team in the top enrollment classification for soccer or girls volleyball according to a local source.

This year, Canon-McMillan School District lands 10 student-athletes from these sports! Volleyball Coach Sheila Mitchell was also recognized as the Quad A -Section 2 Coach of the Year at The Big 56 First Team All Conference Banquet. The student-athletes recognized and pictured include:

  • Girls Volleyball: Gianna Reamer, Natalie Carr, Josie Carter,
    • Quad A -Section 2 Coach of the Year: Sheila Mitchell
  • Boys Soccer: Anthony Bellino, Jordan Katreeb, Jacob Glancy
  • Football: Kent McMahon, Austyn Winkleblech, Jake Kasper, Mike Evans

Coach Mitchell congratulates everyone and thanks her team and Assistant Coach as well,

"Congratulations to all of the athletes, especially the CM players, recognized today. It's an honor to be recognized myself, but it wouldn't be possible without the hard work and dedication our team and Assistant Coach Lexi Surunis put forth this season."

Assistant Athletic Director and Football Coach Mike Evans is very proud and also congratulates everyone,

"We are very proud of all of our athletic teams, players and coaches. Congratulations to these young men and women who have achieved so much. We are proud."
