Canon-McMillan High School's Math & Computer Science teacher and Computer Science Club Sponsor Ms. Gutosky is celebrating Computer Science Education Week Dec. 5-9 in her Math & Computer Science courses at Canon-McMillan High School. According to csedweek.org:
COMPUTER SCIENCE EDUCATION WEEK IS AN ANNUAL CALL TO ACTION TO INSPIRE K-12 STUDENTS TO LEARN COMPUTER SCIENCE, ADVOCATE FOR EQUITY, AND CELEBRATE THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF STUDENTS, TEACHERS, AND PARTNERS TO THE FIELD.
Ms. Gutosky said she has been planning for this for weeks! Through her partnerships with Amazon Future Engineer, Microsoft, Code.org, Carnegie Mellon University, as well as other Computer Science Curriculum providers, she has put together an entire week of #HourOfCode activities to do with her students to inspire and motivate them to learn beyond what they learn in their courses.
Ms Gutosky attended professional development through Amazon to bring the #HourOfAI: Alexa in Space activity to CMHS. Amazon Future Engineer just launched this exciting new lesson that covers the basics of voice artificial intelligence (AI) and leads students through two highly scaffolded voice AI tutorials. She is leading students through these during class where they learn how to program their own Alexa device using AI.
In addition, students will be completing other #HourOfCode activities this week where they will be learning and applying computer science and computational thinking skills to solve fun and engaging problems through various activities.
On Thursday, Ms Gutosky is hosting "Googlers" from Google Pittsburgh. Volunteers from Google Pittsburgh will join her computer science courses virtually to complete live tours, Hour of Code tutorials, as well as a career panel with CHMS students.
You can join in on the fun as well! View the flyer Ms Gutosky created and scan the QR code to get started. Or visit https://hourofcode.com/.
