Coronavirus Letter to Community

Dear Canon-McMillan School District Community,

As the news regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to unfold, the District is preparing for a potential outbreak in our region.  Although there have been no reported COVID-19-related cases in Pennsylvania, we are closely monitoring information provided by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.  We are prepared to implement a contingency plan should guidance from these agencies require such. In addition to our standard cleaning protocols, we have implemented additional cleaning techniques to emphasize the importance of disinfecting high-touch surfaces/areas.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health suggests preventative measures to reduce the risk of infection or spread of disease.  Those measures include:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.  Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose areas
  • Parents/Guardians should keep their children home from school if they are sick
  • Cover coughs or sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue ion the trash.  If a tissue is not available, cover coughs or sneezes with your elbow.  Do not use your hands!

Symptoms of COVID-19 can include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
