On January 16, 2023 Canon-McMillan Middle School held its Grand Opening for administration, current and former staff members, current and former school board members and anyone else that played an important role in the development of the new school. The school officially opened for students and staff a week prior on Monday, January 9th, 2023. Though a mid-year move is an incredible task it was a smooth transition thanks to every single department within the district.
Canon-McMillan Middle School's Principal Ken Schrag started the ceremonies off by welcoming everyone to the new school. Talie Hardy then sang a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. Canon-McMillan's School Board President Mr. Pete Moniodes spoke on behalf of the School Board. Superintendent Michael Daniels continued thanking everyone involved and told the story of the CM Bell that was lost and found and now sits in front of the new Administration Building. Canon-McMillan's Central Office Administration Building has also moved to their own wing of the new Canon-McMillan Middle School as well.
Former Middle School Principal and now Assistant to the Superintendent for Grades K-6 Dr. Greg Taranto then spoke of the Time Capsule. He introduced Canon-McMillan Middle School's Student Council Officers: President Faye Saunders, Vice President Quinn Paris, Treasurer Campbell Garner and Secretary Logan Fisher. They each spoke of things that they included in the time capsule like a list of the current teachers and staff members, a lunch menu and a Class of 2027 poster signed by everyone in their class to name a few.
The four Canon-McMillan Middle School student officers then inserted the time capsule into the bricks at the front of the building. After the Time Capsule Presentation tours were given throughout the school with staff members available to answer questions. Light refreshments and appetizers were also offered concluding the tours.
Canon-McMillan School District would like to thank everyone that's been involved in this project from the very beginning.
