Canon-McMillan Middle School isn't the only thing that opened up in Canon-McMillan School District this year. The Chill Room, located in Canon-McMillan High School, also opened earlier this year.The Chill Project, presented by Allegheny Health Network, is one of the ways Canon-McMillan School District is addressing mental health needs of the student population.The Chill Program is described as a modern way to address school districts’ mental health needs. Just last month in December, Canon-McMillan administrators hosted a Lunch and Learn in partnerhsip with the Remake Learning program. Administrators, including High School Academic Principal Jenna Handra, Assistant to the Superintendent Ken Crowley, Director of Special Education Becky Lieb and Special Education Coordinator Kelsey Oberly were able to share information about The Chill Room and Chill Project Curriculum to other staff members and administrators from other districts.
As the only Chill Room in Washington County Canon-McMillan School District's Chill Room continued to get noticed in mid-January as well, The previously mentioned administrators hosted many supervisors from The Chill Project and Nikki Williams, wife of Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Travis Williams and Kim Holmberg, wife of Highmark CEO David Holmberg. They discussed the room and its impact and also toured a Mobile Chill Room which may be explored by the district for other levels. The Mobile Chill Room, sponsored by the Pittsburgh Pirates, has projections with different themes like space, underwater and more.
