Canon-McMillan's Varsity Boys Wrestling Continues to Set Records And Add to the Rich Wrestling Legacy

The Canon-McMillan Varsity Boys Wrestling Team is currently adding to the rich legacy that our community has enjoyed for almost a century. This year's group of Big Mac grapplers finished the team portion of the season with a 17 - 4 overall record, going 5 - 0 in their section on their way to a team Section VI Championship. They then competed in the prestigious W.P.I.A.L. team duals tournament going 4 - 0 and winning the programs 10th WPIAL Championship under the modern format which has been in place since 1979. This is also the program's 22nd overall WPIAL Championship. Both of the above are records.

After winning the WPIAL, the team traveled to Hershey's Giant Center to compete in the PIAA State Duals Tournament where they were able to achieve a 4th place finish. This is the program's 4th time medaling since the PIAA instituted a Team Duals Championship in 1999. Key victories this season came against rivals Connellsville 40 - 31 at Connellsville when they were ranked 4th in the state and Waynesburg both in the WPIAL finals 29 - 28 and in the consolation semi finals (blood round) at the state tournament 33 - 32, Waynesburg was ranked 1st in the WPIAL and 3rd in the State at the time of these victories.

The team consisted of members: Matthew Furman (captain), Gabriel Stafford (captain), Brandon Dami (captain), Giuseppe Juliani, Noah Livesay, Addison Miller, Sam Mascara (manager), Luke Shaffer, Antonio DePaoli, Jack Hiltz, Izzy Silvestros (manager), Andrew Binni, Tanner Mizenko, Josiah Gardner, Ryder Joseph, Geno Calgaro, Nick Casella, Blake Ward, Mason Williams, Aaron Fisher, Mikhail Krenzelak, Vinni Binni, Racer Litster, Roco Didiano, Collier Hartman, Alleni Cechhini (manager) and Emma Gump (manager). Coaches are Brian Krenzelak, Jurdon Maier, Albert Miles, Mark Powell, Dave Gump, Cody Klempay, Ron Totterdale, and Sheila Mitchell.

The team was very happy to earn Frank Vulcano his first WPIAL Team Wrestling Championship as the Athletic Director of Canon-McMillan. Next, the team turns its focus on the individual portion of the season, Individual Sections is Saturday, February 25 at South Fayette HS, wrestling starts 9:30 AM, top 6 at Sections qualifies for Individual WPIAL tournament hosted at Canon-McMillan HS on Friday March 3, 4:30 PM and Saturday March 4, 10:00 AM. Top 4 wrestlers from this event then qualify for the PIAA Individual state tournament in Hershey, March 9 - 11.
