The Canon-McMillan Middle School will be participating in a theme and kindness challenge each day of the week pf February 13th. They will play kindness BINGO, write a "thank you" valentine, participate in a mindfulness activity, have a chance to donate to the North Strabane K9 student government fundraiser and finish the week by selecting a "kindness coin" from the mural to give to a friend or loved one and pass on the kindness.

According to Art Teacher Laureen Trovato, the inspiration for the mural comes from contemporary American artist, Jonathan Saiz.  He is known for his large murals made up of smaller works of art.

In 2019, he displayed a work entitled “#WhatIsUtopia”.  It consisted of 10,000 individual 2”x2” pieces of art.  Once the exhibition closed, he gave away every piece.

Students in Art classes and art club members created small individual pieces to add to this mural.  The pieces will be given away on Random Acts of Kindness Day, February 17th.

“I don’t know if free art can create a better world, but I’m inspired to try…one tiny painting at a time.”  Jonathan Saiz
