Borland Manor Elementary’s second annual “Read-A-Thon” was a spring fundraiser organized by the PFO where the focus was getting the kids to read. The whole school read over 80,000 minutes and raised over $10,000 in a two week period! They only had 24,000 minutes read last year, so that jump is incredible! Students asked friends and family to support them by making a one-time donation in an amount of their choosing. Students logged  their minutes every time they read. The Borland Manor Elementary PFO offered raffles throughout those two weeks (students earned tickets by reading and raising money) to keep the students excited.

There was a competition to see which class read and raised the most. The kids were excited to see which classes got the trophies. On Tuesday, March 28th there was an assembly to announce who won all the prizes - and there were a lot of students who won raffle prizes and awards (pictured in the album below.) Lots of exciting things  happened, including Mr. Rob, Ms. Dixson and Officer Hart getting “pied” by the top earners in the school Quin S.  ($395 raised), Bennett N.  ($400 raised) and Cruz C. ($470 raised). The top readers in the school were Jackson M.  at 1822 minutes, Julia Y, at 1910 minutes and Colton A, at 2000 minutes (over 33 hours!) Mrs. Reda’s third grade class read the most minutes at 11,654 minutes, and Mrs. Nardine’s AM class raised the most at $1875. The top two readers in each grade even got to silly string Principal McConnell! Click this link for the full list of winners.

Thanks to the Borland Manor Elementary PFO for organizing such an exciting way to encourage reading and thanks to Mr. Rob, Ms. Dixson, Officer Hart and Principal McConnell for being such great supporters!
