Prior to Spring Break some of our elementary buildings participated in spring crafts or parties. Wylandville Elementary, for example, participated in spring crafts sponsored by the PTO.
According to Ms. Erbrecht for example, her third graders enjoyed creating a mosaic flower pot with colorful squares of paper. Parent volunteers led the spring craft, which students enjoyed the day before spring break. Students also could make a flower craft for their pot using a popsicle stick, yarn, and paper cut-outs.
First grade teacher Mrs. Hammer said this craft, provided by the PTO, worked well with the units on plants they just learned,
"Students used terracotta pots and decorated them with stickers. They then used weaving to weave a piece of yarn around a paper flower attached to a popsicle stick. Lastly they used tissue paper to be the "soil" for the pot. This aligns to first grade because we just finished our unit on plants where students planted their own seeds in the classroom and took their plants home. They actually took their real plant home the same day as their craft flower pot."
Special thanks to the PTO of Wylandville Elementary for providing this fun activity!
