Dear Canon-McMillan School District Parents/Guardians and Staff,

Within the past week, the Canon-McMillan School District learned of additional positive COVID-19 cases in the district. Two staff members, one at Wylandville Elementary and one at Muse Elementary have tested positive for COVID-19. Also a student from the Canon-McMillan Boys JV/Varsity Basketball Teams has also tested positive. Contact tracing was conducted and the individuals identified as close contacts were notified. The DOH has been contacted and since there is limited staff in the buildings due to remote learning, immediate closures are not warranted at this time. However, the boys basketball team will have to quarantine through December 17th and all games during that time frame will be postponed. We are taking all recommended steps to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff. Please note, we are performing daily deep cleanings in all District buildings with disinfectant mist machines.

The Canon-McMillan Dashboard on our website reflects students and staff that were physically present in a school facility when they were infectious.  The active positive cases within a 14 day period are used to determine when an entire school will close and the length of closure based on the level of community transmission.  Because of the holiday break and the current 100% remote instructional model, multiple cases were not included in the Dashboard.  In an effort to be completely transparent the school district believes it is important to also communicate these cases with the community. These numbers are as of today and all staff members are able to work remotely as the result of our current instructional model. They include staff who tested positive, but were not physically present in a district facility while infectious, staff that are in quarantined as the result of exposure, and staff in quarantine as the result of travel;  6 staff members tested positive and 9 are in quarantine.  These cases are in addition to the ones referenced in the opening paragraph and being tracked on the District Dashboard.

Please visit the PA Department of Health website (www.health.pa.gov) for the latest and most accurate information about COVID-19.  The health and safety of our students and staff is paramount, and we continue to follow all aspects of the District’s health and safety plan at all times.  We thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate through this pandemic.  We will get through this together.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Canon-McMillan School District
