Canon-McMillan School District has developed a phased return to in-person instruction that will begin after the holiday break.  K-4 schools will be the first grade span to begin offering four-day in-person instruction starting on January 5, 2021.  The intermediate schools will return on January 5, 2021 to the Hybrid A / B day Model and tentatively transition to four-day in-person instruction starting on January 19, 2021. January 4th, the day school resumes after the holiday break, will be the last day for all students in grades K-6 to be 100% remote.  This day of remote instruction will allow the schools and staff to make final preparations for the return of in person instruction.  Grades 7-12 will be 100% remote until January 19th, 2021 when they will return to the Hybrid Model of Learning.

The options for K-4 are:

  • Option 1 - Blended Learning:  Students will attend in-person school four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday). Wednesdays will be remote with asynchronous lessons provided by the teachers.   As shared in prior communications, learning models that bring more than 45% of the student population into the schools at one time dramatically reduce the ability to social distance students 6 feet apart in all areas of the school. This applies to buses as well. Masks will be required at all times, in school buildings and on buses, except when eating or drinking.  Cafeteria tables will have plexiglass dividers separating students when masks are removed for lunch and breakfast.  Alternative spaces may also be used for lunch and breakfast service in some schools.

  • Option 2 - Remote Learning:  Students attend 100% of instruction via remote learning taught by Canon-McMillan teachers.  There is no change to the manner in which this option has been provided since the start of the school year.

The 5th and 6th graders at the Intermediate schools will have the same options as above when they tentatively return to four-days a week on January 19, 2021. Until then, they will have the following Hybrid Model:

Hybrid Learning - This is the same model used when we opened the school year:

  • A Group:  Monday and Thursday in-person / Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday Remote

  • B Group: Tuesday and Friday in-person / Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday Remote

The District will monitor staffing issues and other conditions during the specified period of this phased return and may modify this plan as circumstances dictate.
