Updated Contract Tracing and Quarantine Protocols

Guidance Flowchart
Posted On: Wednesday, December 22, 2021

Dear Canon-McMillan School District Parents/Guardians and Staff,

With the State Supreme Court decision on December 10th overturning the statewide mask mandate and our district reverting back to the mask optional plan, the district will be modifying its quarantining process starting on January 3, 2022.

With a mask optional plan the district anticipates the number of quarantined students will increase and the likelihood of quarantining healthy individuals will increase with it. As a result, close contacts who are symptom free will be permitted to remain in school for in-person learning.

The school district will continue to contact trace and notify the close contacts by phone and by email. Close contacts will be instructed to monitor symptoms with a recommendation to test after 5-7 days of their exposure. They may continue to attend school if they remain symptom free. If they exhibit any symptoms or test positive, they must stay home and quarantine. The attached Flowchart further illustrates this protocol.

Parents may elect to have their child quarantined even though they are symptom free.  If you decide to do so, please notify your school. As in the past, for quarantine purposes, access to recorded lessons will be available to students in this situation and  attendance counted as present.

Please be reminded, COVID-19 cases and COVID-19 transmission rates are high in our region and although masks are optional, we encourage everyone to continue to wear them. Guidance, protocols and current conditions are continuously under review and subject to change at any time.  We ask for your patience and understanding as we all work through this together.

Thank you,

Canon-McMillan School District
