November 2019 Student Spotlight: Andrew Bricker, “The Book Hero”

Andrew Bricker with his book School Monsters
Posted On: Monday, November 25, 2019

With the spirit of Thanksgiving it was easy to pick second grader Andrew Bricker for Canon-Mac’s November 2019 Student Spotlight! Andrew took something that he loves, like reading and writing, and literally paid it forward to other students.

Andrew is a second grade student at Muse Elementary and he noticed that some other students couldn’t afford to purchase a book at the school’s recent book fair. Andrew and his incredibly kind heart thought this was unacceptable and decided to raise some money for those students that were less fortunate than him. He has written over 40 books and decided to sell some at his parents’ yard sale and gave the money to the school for kids that don't have any books of their own. The principal suggested giving the money to the fund for kids that don't have money at book fair. In addition, he was allowed to submit one of his books to the school library. He wrote "School Monsters" specifically for Muse Elementary and was thrilled when it was bar coded and borrowed by fellow students! He is currently writing more books for the next yard sale and is going to be selling copies of "School Monsters" in the meantime in order to donate more money to the book fair fund.

Andrew hopes to inspire kids to read and write like he is inspired by Dav Pilkey, author of books like Captain Underpants. On Muse’s Dress Like Your Dream Job Day he dressed as an author and for Halloween his family dressed as Dav Pilkey characters with Andrew being Dog Man.

Canon-McMillan School District is incredibly thankful and proud of fantastic students like Andrew Bricker and can’t wait to see what books Andrew comes up with next!
