Borland Manor Students Win Young Writers' Competition

Borland Manor Young Writers
Posted On: Thursday, November 14, 2019

Congratulations to Borland Manor to these 12 Borland Manor students: Alaina Glaser, Aidan Morse, Brady Richter, Bisma Khan, Ben Debbis, Kaden Harkins, Jackson Greene, Oscar McGurty, Thomas Rellick, Jayden Johnson, Tyler Ludwin, and Claire Logue. Their entries in the Young Writers USA Spooky Saga Writing Competition were selected and will be published in a book called the Spooky Sagas 2019- Pennsylvanian Authors. This book is scheduled for publication on February 29, 2020. Borland Manor is going to receive one complimentary copy of the book and each additional copy is $24.99. A copy of the book will also be sent to the Library of Congress in Washington DC to provide a lasting record of their achievement!

Reading Specialist Bethany West discovered the competition in her mailbox one day and brought it to fourth grade teacher Ms. Katelyn Wargo's attention one day. The contest challenged the students to write a mini saga; a spooky tale using atmosphere and suspense in just 100 words.

According to the Young Writers' website,

"Young Writers was established in 1991 in a small warehouse in Eastern England and has blossomed into a worldwide brand! Today, Young Writers is still a modest family-run business, but on a much bigger scale than its humble beginnings.

We pride ourselves on encouraging young writers to read, write and enjoy poetry as well as creative writing. Having work published boosts confidence, nurtures creative talent and showcases creativity."

Canon-McMillan School District would like to congratulate these students and Borland Manor Elementary on this impressive accomplishment!
