Canon-Mac Wrestling Wins TRI-CADA Tournament and Gerrit Nijenhuis Wins Outstanding Wrestler Award for the Fourth Time

The wrestling won their 2nd tournament of the year - TRI-CADA tournament held Jan. 3rd and 4th at South Fayette High School. The team had 4 Champions, 4 Runner Ups, Three 3rd place Finishers and three Fifth place finishers on their way the Title. Canon-McMillan, with four champions, won the team title with 283.5 points. Waynesburg, which had five champions, was second with 257.5 points. Gerrit Nijenhuis won his Fourth Title, becoming only the 4th person in the tournament history to do so. Nijenhuis disposed of Donovan McMillon of Peters Township with a 13-3 major decision in the 182-pound finals. The accomplishment earned Nijenhuis the Outstanding Wrestler award.

“I wasn’t really thinking about it,” said Nijenhuis. “I knew this would be my fourth because I won it since I was a freshman. I didn’t let it affect my wrestling. It was a good little weekend.”
