Health Services

Mission

The Health Services Department at Canon-McMillan School District is staffed with Certified School Nurses (CSN), Registered Nurses (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN). Our care professionals work together to foster the growth, development and educational achievement of each student. They students reach and maintain their maximum health and educational potential by promoting a safe and healthy environment for all.

Responsibilities

Canon-McMillan School Nurses support health and learning in the following ways: 

  • Provide health counseling

  • Administer medication 

  • Perform medical procedures necessary to maintain student and staff health in the school setting

  • Perform health screenings as mandated by the PA Department of Health 

  • Assess and treat illnesses and injuries occurring during school hours 

  • Review and monitor immunizations as per PA Department of Health regulations 

  • Provide health education and wellness counseling 

  • Provide support and coordination of students with chronic health concerns 

  • Assist families in obtaining health care services 

  • Serve as a resource to faculty, administration, parents and students

  • Promote healthy lifestyle choices

Immunizations

​Looking out for your child's total health and wellness includes keeping them up to date on preventative immunizations, allowing them to be their best self every day.  Vaccinations are required for children to attend school in Pennsylvania. The new regulations took effect at the start of the 2017/18 school year.

A record of immunizations is maintained for each student.  If your child receives additional immunizations, please send this information in to your school nurse so the school record can be kept up to date.
