The Staff Spotlight section at Canon-McMillan School District celebrates some of the dedicated educators who make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and the community. Each month, we are proud to shine a spotlight on a staff member who creates big opportunities for every student and supports the growth of the whole child.
Through their passion, creativity and dedication, our staff inspires students to discover their strengths, build their confidence and reach their full potential. Together, they are helping Canon-McMillan grow as a flagship school district recognized for excellence.

SEPTEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Megan Fuchs
Meet Megan Fuchs, a fourth-grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher at South Central Elementary School, who is in her third year of teaching at Canon-McMillan School District!
“Mrs. Fuchs has a strong passion for teaching ELA, and that enthusiasm is evident in the way she engages her students every day,” said South Central Principal Robert Miele.
“She has built a strong rapport with all of her students and creates a classroom environment where they feel comfortable, supported and excited to learn. Her dedication to her students and love of teaching make her a wonderful asset to South Central, and we are very lucky to have her on our team.”

Did you attend Canon-McMillan School District as a student? If so, which school(s)? If not, where are you from?
I did not attend CM; I went to Greensburg Salem High School, about an hour East of Canon-McMillan!
What inspired you to become part of the education field at Canon-McMillan School District?
From my first interview to today, the teachers and administrators have been welcoming and so positive. The energy and vision of the District are evident. I feel fortunate to work with the wonderful Canon-McMillan children and be surrounded by such a supportive and committed community of people!
In one word, what makes you proud to work for CM?
Family
What do you enjoy most about the Canon-McMillan community?
I enjoy how Canon-McMillan has a special community that supports our schools, has high expectations and wants the best for the teachers, staff and students. It has been a joy joining the CM community where everyone is so supportive, and that is a great feeling!
What path did you take after completing your formal education?
I graduated from Grove City College in 2023 and served as a permanent substitute teacher in the Hampton School District for one year. I was then hired for a job here at South Central Elementary! I have been teaching fourth grade since I started here and am currently working on my Master's Degree in Teaching and Leadership from Point Park University, and I plan to graduate in May 2027.
What is your favorite childhood book, or a book that has positively influenced your life?
My favorite childhood book was Matilda. Honestly, I find myself referring back to this book more now than ever. Miss Honey was the kind of teacher I wanted to be, and I hope each year to be my students' "Miss Honey"; someone who is kind, compassionate, gentle and someone they remember for a lifetime. Matilda reminded me that it takes time to reach every student, but when you do, you can make a difference.
What is your favorite way to spend a snow day?
On a perfect snow day, my husband would bravely journey to Starbucks for a hot coffee for me, and we would watch some sort of Disney movie! I would have to force myself off the couch to work out and cook dinner.
Share a shout-out to a former teacher who impacted your life and where they taught.
Ironically, my favorite teacher was my fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Bishop. She taught fourth grade at Aquinas Academy in Greensburg. I loved her, and still do! Each day, she seemed excited to see us. She made learning fun, and her classroom was an exciting place to be. We still stay in touch today, which is so special.
With that being said, at the end of my year with her, she wrote me a note telling me that she hoped I would become a teacher! Little did either of us know that I would not only become a teacher, but that I would end up teaching fourth grade, too.
