Superintendent's Corner

Dr. Greg Taranto, Superintendent of the Canon-McMillan School District, is a dedicated and compassionate educator with a rich academic background and extensive experience in school administration.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Slippery Rock University, a master’s degree in exercise science and cardiac rehabilitation from East Stroudsburg University, a master’s degree in elementary education and K-12 principal certification from California University of Pennsylvania, and a Ph.D. in instructional management and leadership from Robert Morris University.
 

Since joining the Canon-McMillan School District in 1999 as a student teacher, Dr. Taranto has been a transformative piece in growing our District academically. He began his career as a middle school science teacher and quickly advanced to assistant principal in 2003. From 2005 to 2022, he served as the middle school principal, where his leadership was pivotal in earning the school its first Schools to Watch designation. In 2012, he was named Pennsylvania Principal of the Year by the Pennsylvania Principals Association.

Dr. Taranto’s leadership style emphasizes teamwork, determination, and forward-thinking, qualities that have significantly contributed to the success of the District and students. Beyond his administrative roles, Taranto also contributes to educational research and literature, with over 25 publications on education and leadership. His outstanding research and published work have earned him the ASCD Outstanding Research & Publication Award and the Frank S. Manchester Award for Journalism. Dr. Taranto’s commitment to education and leadership continues to inspire educators and administrators in the academic field.
