Canon-McMillan High School has once again been selected for an exciting opportunity to partner with Microsoft Philanthropies as part of our Computer Science program next year. This opportunity is in addition to our current partnership with Microsoft and our AP Computer Science Principles course. We are continuing to invest in our students by partnering with Microsoft Philanthropies TEALS to continue to build and grow our CS program. There are more than 500,000 open computer science positions without qualified talent to fill them across all industries. We are trying to help ensure our students have access to the necessary education to ensure a successful future for them.
Microsoft Philanthropies TEALS is a program that recruits, mentors, and places passionate technology professionals into high school classrooms as volunteer instructors. These volunteers bring subject matter expertise into the classroom and will join Ms. Becca Gutosky to collaboratively teach computer science together. TEALS provides training for both parties, rigorous curricula, and opportunities for students to continue their education outside of the classroom.
We have been selected by TEALS to utilize their program and resources to further enrich our students’ minds and skillsets as part of our Computer Science I or II courses. As a TEALS partner school, Canon-McMillan High School needs assistance from volunteers from the computer science and software engineering fields to team-teach our Computer Science I or II course with our teacher, Ms. Gutosky. We would hold our Computer Science I course during period two (8:34-9:16) and our Computer Science II course during period 8 (1:10-1:52) and can accommodate you team-teaching remotely if that better suits you and/or your employer.
Please help --if you or someone you know works in the computer science or software engineering field and would be interested in making a difference in our students’ future success, please contact Mr. Ken Crowley at firstname.lastname@example.org and our TEALS regional manager, Ms. Lucia Berliner, at email@example.com . You can read more about TEALS on their website at www.tealsk12.org
TEALS is also running several webinars for prospective volunteers. Please visit https://www.tealsk12.org/volunteer-info-sessions/ to sign up!
I am excited about this opportunity and look forward to hearing from and working with many of you.
