SafeArrival
Canon-McMillan SafeArrival Information for Families
At Canon-McMillan School District, we want to ensure that all our students arrive safely at school each and every day.
We are excited to announce that we will be launching an efficient student absence report system for all K-12 families called SafeArrival. The absence report system will open for all CMSD families starting the second semester of the 2025-2026 school year. During quarter two of this school year, Wylandville Elementary and Canon-McMillan Middle School families will get the opportunity to pilot SafeArrival. The pilot will help us determine if any changes need to be made before we launch SafeArrival district-wide.
SafeArrival will reduce the time it takes to verify student attendance, make it easier for families to report their child’s absence and staff to respond to unexplained student absences.
With SafeArrival, you can report your child’s absence in advance or the day of when they cannot attend school due to an illness, health appointment, etc. using any of the the following free (3) convenient methods:
1. PowerSchool Mobile App: Using your mobile device, open or install the PowerSchool Mobile App from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Select the menu option in the lower right corner of the screen. Select SafeArrival from the list. Select Report Absence at the top of the screen. Select the reason for the absence from Type of Absence. Select Save.
2. MyPowerHub: Login to MyPowerHub. Select Attendance then select SafeArrival Attendance. On the SafeArrival screen, select Report Absence. Select Absence Reason. Select Save.
3. Toll-Free Phone: Call the toll-free number [1-888-905-5815] to report an absence using the automated phone system.
These options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Day of absences, for instance for illness, should be reported as early in the morning as possible the day of the absence. Future absences can also be reported in advance.
Important: Safe Arrival uses our student information system (PowerSchool) to verify all accounts, so it is important that parents/guardians use the same email address on file in PowerSchool when creating their Safe Arrival account.
We will use the SchoolMessenger Communicate automated notification system to contact parents/guardians whose child is absent when the absence was not reported. The automated notification system will attempt to contact parents/guardians starting at 9:00 AM (Grades 7-12) and 10:00 AM (Grades K-6) at multiple contact points (e.g., phone, email, text) until a reason is submitted for the absence. Please refer to the SafeArrival Quick Tips.
Parents/Guardians who report their child’s absence either the morning of the absence or in advance of a known absence using the SafeArrival toll-free number, website or mobile app will NOT receive these notifications that your child has been marked absent. Additionally, parents/guardians who use the SafeArrival system to report their child’s absence will NOT be required to send in an additional absence note, as the reporting system will count as the note.
Starting Wednesday, January 21, 2026, parents/guardians may report absences, the day of and in advance of known absences, using SafeArrival instead of sending written excuses or calling/emailing the school. For vacation requests, the Pre-Planned Vacation Form will still need to be used. Vacation requests cannot be entered using SafeArrival.
SafeArrival is an effective communication tool to make reporting your student’s absence more efficient and timely. You can still send in excuses to the school, but utilizing the SafeArrival system speeds up the attendance process so we can quickly confirm the location of your student.
Please refer to the SafeArrival links on the right side of this page for more information.
