How to Enroll

Canon-McMillan School District is now accepting kindergarten registrations for the 2025-2026 school year. The District uses an online registration system, PowerSchool Express Enrollment, for new students enrolling in the District. All registration forms are completed electronically and supporting documents (student identification, two proofs of residency and immunization records) are uploaded directly into the District's student information system. Kindergarten at Canon-McMillan is half day. There is a morning session from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and an afternoon session from 12:45 p.m. to 3:25 p.m.

Registration Steps

The online registration process requires a computer, internet access and the ability to scan or photograph documents. We recommend you scan and save or take a photo of each document electronically prior to starting the application. You will need to upload the following documents when enrolling online:
  • Original birth certificate
  • Immunization record: a physician's statement/record of immunizations.
    • If your child's immunizations are not current, they will not be permitted to attend school until immunizations are received and/or our physician indicates a plan to have the vaccine(s) administered.
    • See school immunization requirements here.
  • Two proofs of residency: acceptable documents include a (1) mortgage statement or lease with a parent/guardian name (2) utility bill (gas, electric, sewage, etc.)

When you are ready to begin the process, click the Kindergarten Registration link below. You will create a PowerSchool Enrollment account first, then follow the prompts and instructions to move through the electronic application. If you cannot complete the registration process all at once, you may save your progress and log back in to continue where you left off. Be sure to submit all required information and requested documentation.

Once online registration is complete, you will receive an email to inform you which elementary school your child will attend based on your residence. The email will also include a link to make an appointment for your child's Kindergarten Screening that will take place on May 20, 2025.

Kindergarten Screening

Prior to starting school in August, every incoming kindergarten student will be given a short screening interview in May with a basic skills assessment to aid parents and teachers in student placement. This tool is used just as a baseline of student knowledge. Parents will provide feedback about their child, and the District will provide each family with a Kindergarten Toolkit for the summer.

Kindergarten Orientation

Canon-McMillan elementary schools hold a Kindergarten Orientation for parents and incoming students in August. During the orientation, kindergarteners have an opportunity to meet the teachers and visit the classrooms while the building principal and staff speak to parents. The presentation includes a comprehensive overview of the school, kindergarten program and student services. While parents meet with the principal, kindergarten students will take a bus ride to learn basic safety rules and bus expectations so they are comfortable riding the bus on the first day of school.
